The complexity of the situation we find in Santiago

When we talk about urban enviroment (more if you´re related in someway with architecture) , we usually think in urbanism , and how through this we can solve most of the problems characteristics in cities.Today more than a half of the humankind lives in cities and maybe in 30 years in future most of the planet will live in urban area, for this reason and even since 60´s early 70´s the urban planning has been a topic very frequent in the study of the cities.

Peter Calthorpe an urbanist talks about 7 principles for building better cities, specifically livable , one of the facts that he metion is that the problems that he experiment day after day , are produce by us , our behavior. The sprawl and the low-rise buildings in the periphery of the metropolitan city is making that many people going to be segregated in a physical and economic way just like what we see today in Santiago with the respective problems that involves like long times of travel to go form one point to another in the city , the segregation begins to be more agresive when all the people who lives in the city don´t have the same opportunities for live in the cities , many people dont have public transportation near to home , or services or green areas .

I'm agree with the fact of assume the commitment and the challenge to make the city a place for live better and colaborate to make of it a place with the same opportunities for all , that is to say democratic.
